Monson, MA- Monson Bank $5 18__ as G10 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The Monson Bank opened in 1854 and ten years later became the Monson National Bank (Ch. 503). This attractive note features a large vignette of a passenger train and another well done vignette of a Native American maiden. The American Bank Note imprint is not that of THE ABNCo, formed in 1858, but rather a name used occasionally by Joycelyn, Draper, Welsh & Co. between 1854 and 1858. The note is on card. We are not aware of any public auction appearances in the last decade, suggesting that the lone example found in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale may be unique.
