    Description

Monroe, LA- Vicksburg, Shreveport and Texas Railroad Company $5 Jan. 13, 1862 Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
The road was chartered in 1853 and was intended to run between northeast Texas and the Mississippi River before the Civil War overcame these efforts. In early 1862, Confederate authorities seized control of the line due to the Union sympathies of the road's officers. Printed on the back of unissued 1856 bonds, ink erosion is showing in the first letter of the president's signature.
