Milledgeville, GA- The State of Georgia Notes used for Advertising Group Five Examples
State of Georgia notes were sometimes used for advertising purposes in the decades immediately after the war. This group comprises four notes (Cr. 11; Cr. 12; Cr. 15 and Cr. 19) which carry ads for the General R.R. and Steamship Ticket Office No. 4 at the Kimball House in Atlanta, GA as well as a remainder Cr. 15 fractional note which was ready to be turned into advertising. It is ironic that the fine print on two of the notes indicates that these advertising pieces were redeemable in genuine Confederate States Treasury Notes when presented in sums of $50 and upwards, with the applicant paying postage. The four advertising notes grade between XF and Uncirculated while the remainder fractional note grades Fine-VF. (Total: 5 notes)
