Johnstown, PA- Cambria Iron Works - Wood, Morrel & Co. 6-1/4¢ ___ 1863 Remainder Hoober UNL PMG About Uncirculated 55.
The company was founded in 1852 , eventually becoming part of Bethlehem Steel in 1923. This note, which is unlisted in Hoober, was intended for use circa 1863 by company employees in the company store but interestingly is a denomination that was seldom used by the 1860s. When foreign coins had their legal tender status removed in 1857, the use of "bit" denominations came to an end in most places. The plain note is printed in red with "Store Order" printed in blue. PMG notes toning. We have not offered this denomination previously as an individual note.
