    Janesville, WI - Rock County Bank $2 February 1, 1856 WI-295 G4. Proof. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
All the banks from Janesville, including this, are very rare. This is a full Gem New 66PPQ proof on India paper mounted on cardstock, engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. using the beautiful vignettes from their palette. The top center shows workers loading baskets of corn into a wagon. At the upper left is a portrait of a well-dressed boy. At the lower right, the portrait shows a woman, floral filigree on her dress and flowers in her hair. Hole Punch Cancelled as prepared by TC. This an extremely rare proof, with $1, $3 and $5 India paper denominations in the Krause collection sales, both ex: Bookbinder via D.C. Wismer pedigrees. In the second sale in March 2010, the $1 proof realized $3,220 and the $5, with some paper thins, realized $2,300. This a Gem on cardstock, and it looks perfect.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
