    Description

Germantown, PA- Bank of Germantown $500 181_ UNL Proof PMG About Uncirculated 55.
The bank was organized in 1814 and remained in business for a half century until it became the National Bank of Germantown in 1864. Intended for use early in the bank's life, this note's design was a classic Murray Draper Fairman design featuring an allegorical female representing Plenty or Prosperity. PHILADELPHIA is prominently displayed since the city was a prominent money center of the day. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with no POCs or other forms of cancellation present. PMG notes that there are a couple of ink annotations on the face that have been partially removed. There are virtually no numismatic records or known public appearances by this note in at least the last decade. Decidedly rare and likely to stay that way.
