    Fayetteville, NC- Bank of Clarendon at Fayetteville $5 18__ as G2 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
    The bank opened in 1855 and remained in business throughout the Civil War, failing shortly thereafter. This $5 features vignettes of an allegorical maiden with a fasces seated in a large V, perhaps representing America or Union and a representation of the North Carolina state seal. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock affixed to a Danforth Wright archive book card with the usual POCs in the signature lines. Four examples of this variety (without protectors) were in the ABNCo Archives sale in 1990.
