    Fairmont, VA- Fairmont Bank $5 May 15, 1860 G10a J-L BF05-17 PMG Choice Fine 15.
A rare issue from this seldom seen bank, the $5 incorporates a number of vignettes, including a female portrait that was added in 1860 to replace the state treasurer die whose use ended when the state's banks transitioned to issuing unregistered notes. The note also incorporates a large red FIVE protector. A total of 2-4 surviving examples are known per Jones-Littlefield. A pleasant evenly circulated example with no repairs or meaningful impairments, this piece served as the Haxby plate note.
