Elyria, OH- Starr Bros. & Co. at Lorain Bank in Elyria 25¢ Oct. 1, 1862 Wolka 1075-04 PCGS Fine 12.
George R. and Horace C. Starr were partners in a dry goods business under the banner of "Starr Bros. & Co." from 1857 until sometime in the 1870s. They issued scrip notes such as this 25¢ note which is printed on yellow paper with a large green 25 protector. They used the Lorain Branch of the State Bank of Ohio (known locally as the Lorain Bank in Elyria) as the redemption agent. In 2014 we felt that this note was unique, and nothing has occurred that alters that opinion in the last five years. PCGS notes that there are a number of internal splits and tears but these are of little consequence as the note is still completely intact.
