Columbus, IN- Kentucky Stock Bank $5 18__ Remainder G8b Wolka 0380-05 PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ.
The bank was organized in 1854, succeeding the private firm of B.F. Jones & Co. Its name stems from the Kentucky state bonds which at one time served as most of the security for the bank's circulation. It remained in business until 1863 when it began voluntarily winding up its affairs. It then became McEwen & Sons Bank which collapsed in 1871, with depositors receiving 6¢ on the dollar. The $5 design has five elaborate dies arched over the state free banking die at center which is flanked by two red 5 protectors. The number of dies was,of course, equal to the denomination. This practice was followed on of the bank's other denominations.

    Estimate: $200 - up.
