    Description

Columbus, GA- Bank of Columbus $1 18__ G4 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank was chartered in 1828 but due to poor management suspended by 1843. This design features a vignette of two maidens flanking a shield depicting a plow and other equipment. It is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. While there were significant numbers of proofs from this bank in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, this design was not represented. The design was, however, known to, and listed by, Haxby and there appear to be perhaps four to six surviving proofs.
