DescriptionCleveland, OH- Bank of Commerce $10 18__ G16a Wolka 0700-19 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The Bank of Commerce was organized in 1851 as a Free Bank and remained in business until becoming the Second National Bank of Cleveland in 1863. The design features a group of ten men and women representing various trades (including a firefighter) and allegorical themes, equal to the denomination. In addition to an oval male portrait (whose subject remains unidentified), the note also has a gray TEN and a red lazy X protector. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. Formerly from the Wendell Wolka Collection. Sources generally agree that four or five examples make up the surviving proof population of this design.
