Clarksville, TN- Bank of America $20 18__ as G64a S-C Cr.-B.Ame-20-2Pf Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
Chartered in 1850, the bank did not commence active operation until 1856. Due to unwise speculation in Arkansas farm land and the slaves to work it, the bank suspended in 1858 and finally closed its doors in 1863. The focal point of the note is a vignette of a farmer taking a break with his children in the field flanked by portraits of M.D. Davie and Cornelia Davie, his wife. A large red XX protector completes the design. The note is printed on India paper with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. Eight examples were in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
