Circleville, OH- Pickaway County Bank $3 18__ G8a Wolka 0678-07 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank was organized as a Free Bank or so-called State Stock Bank under legislation passed in 1851. The bank continued in business until it became the First National Bank of Circleville (Ch. 118). The notes from this beautiful series were put into circulation after the state threw out Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson after some of its employees ran off a "few extra" sheets of notes for their own use in 1853. The $3 features a wonderful grape harvesting scene and an oval portrait of an unidentified gentleman as well as a red lazy 3 protector. It is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. While PMG mentions a Pinhole, its location is not apparent through the holder. A ghost image of a $3 on the Bank of Marion appears on the verso. This note, which appeared in Lot 1439 in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, is believed to be unique.
