    Description

    Charlottesville, VA- Monticello Bank $50 Sept. 6, 1860 G28a J-L BC25-35 PMG Choice Fine 15.
The $50 note from this American Bank Note Company series is much rarer than the $20 or lesser denominations from the bank. The color and layout are striking. Monticello as engraved for the series is at the right. The arced title is at top center with a vermillion FIFTY DOLLARS arced directly underneath. The left end shows standing "America"
engraved by Alfred Jones, a vignette also used on the $20 demand notes. Other color details include a large protector "L," upper counter surrounds, and a left end outlined perpendicular die. A very pleasing Choice Fine note, this piece is much nicer in appearance than the problemed PMG Choice Fine 15 from the Aberon collection. That note sold for $1,110 in July 2020.
