Charleston, SC- Bank of South Carolina $100 ND as G72 as Sheheen 396 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank was chartered in 1801 and remained in business until the conclusion of the Civil War in 1865. This $100 layout has interesting pillar designs on both ends and a vignette of Agriculture or perhaps Prosperity at center. It is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock and has cutout rectangles in the signature lines to prevent unauthorized circulation. Eight examples of this design were represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale (a second sheet of four was buried in Lot 2085) and likely equating to the number of surviving proof examples.
