    Rare Odd Denomination Connecticut Note

Bridgeport, CT- Connecticut Bank $4 18__ G64 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank, with a branch in Southport, operated from 1831 to 1865 before becoming the City National Bank of Bridgeport. The note features an allegorical vignette of The Arts, Agriculture, and Commerce as well as vignettes of a steamboat, sailing vessel, woman weaving, and a child writing. Printed on India paper mounted on cardstock without the usual POCs, this note has a latent image of another $4 on the back of the card. There was a lone example in the ABNCo Archives sale in 1990; while Haxby also listed and illustrated this design in proof form in his 1988 catalog. The number of surviving examples is believed to be quite small, perhaps three or four.
