Bloomington, IL- Bank of Bloomington $1-$2-$3-$5 18__ G2a-G4a-G6a-G8a Uncut Sheet PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ.
This McLean County bank was organized as a free bank in 1857. It was one of the rare free banks in the state to survive the Civil War, becoming the National Bank of Bloomington, charter number 819, in early 1865. Sheets for this bank are not listed in Haxby. We have offered previously only one other Uncut Sheet from this bank. It was configured with the same four denominations and graded a raw Uncirculated. It crossed our auction block in January, 2003 to the tune of $2,070. This Toppan, Carpenter & Co. printed sheet has a yellow tint. The vignettes are detailed with the Surviving Example Not Confirmed in Haxby $5 denomination displaying an Arctic vignette of explorer Elisha Kent Kane on one of his two expeditions to rescue explorer Sir John Franklin. The PMG label states that the notes are unaffected by issues in the selvage.
