Bloomery Forge, VA - Bloomery Forge Store 25¢ Jan. 1, 1852 Haxby UNL Jones PB50-04 Very Good.
A very rare piece of merchants' scrip that is the third example we have sold, the last of which was in 2015. Bloomery Forge is located in what is now part of West Virginia and, in the early part of the nineteenth century, was a center for iron smelting. This attractive piece of scrip was likely used by the local iron workers for use at the company store. Large stains and large tears. Rare.
