Augusta, GA- City Bank $2 18__ as G4b Proprietary Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
The City Bank was organized around 1855 and remained in business during the Civil War era, but did not survive the financial aftermath of the conflict. It had begun winding up its affairs by early 1866. The design depicts a diverse range of subjects including Daniel Boone and his dog at left, St. George slaying a dragon at center, and a Native American woman representing Liberty at right. This modern proprietary proof was printed by ABNCo in the 20th century using only the black ink plate. This has resulted in certain second color design elements such as the protector and upper right denominational counter not being present.
