Unique for the Bank and Town

Woodstock, VA - $10 1882 Date Back Fr. 545 The Shenandoah NB Ch. # (S)5449
Unique for the bank and town, with the Kelly census and our records in perfect note is known from Woodstock, and this is it. This bank issued mere pocket change during its existence, and, by the time it closed in 1935, a meager $500 in large notes were still outstanding. We were present in the auction room on that November night in 1976 when this note came up for sale, and well recall the bloody floor battle between two determined bidders, each committed to bringing this note home. When the hammer fell, Emmett was the victor, and, with over 25 years having passed and the note having more than met the test of time, this evening will no doubt prove that Emmett's purchase was a wise one indeed. Fine-Very Fine.
Acquired at the November 18, 1976 Stack's auction in New York City.
