Rare Williamstown, WV Red Seal - First Public Offering

Williamstown, WV - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The Williamstown NB Ch. # (S)6233
A great West Virginia rarity that is not only the first Red Seal to be reported from this tough Wood County bank but the first note from here to ever be publicly offered. A short-lived affair, this bank opened in 1902 and, 14 years later, was closed by the receiver in 1916. Prior to this evening, just two notes were listed in the census, a pair of $10 Date Backs, neither of which has ever made a public appearance. The Red Seal we offer tonight just shows plenty of honest wear yet retains its bold red overprint and strong pen signatures. PMG Choice Fine 15.
