Terra Alta, WV - $5 1902 Date Back Fr. 590 The First NB Ch. # (S)6999
This was the sole issuer located in this Preston County community. Chartered in 1903, it ceased operating in 1931 and leaves a legacy of 13 large notes documented in the census, although just one, likely this example, is of the $5 1902 Date Back design. The example we offer here retains its pack fresh crispness, is nicely centered and has all the eye appeal of any fully uncirculated note. The several folds are really more in the nature of bends and fail to detract in any way from the stunning appearance of this scarce item. The purple stamped officers' signatures remain as bold as the day they were laid down. This is quite simply an exceptionally nice looking note. Extremely Fine and well worth a premium bid.
