    Description

    Piedmont, WV - $20 1929 Ty. 1 The Davis NB Ch. # 4088
A Mineral County $20 from a private named bank that was founded by Henry Gassaway Davis in August 1889. Davis was a self-made millionaire and a United States senator from West Virginia from 1871 to 1883. He was also the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president of the United States in 1904. Davis and presidential candidate Alton Brooks Parker were unsuccessful in their campaign against incumbent Theodore Roosevelt and Charles Fairbanks. Davis at the age of 80 is the oldest person to be nominated for president or vice president on a major party ticket. A light smudge is found next to the left charter number while the top edge has a few tiny nicks. Overall, an attractive Extremely Fine that is nicely margined with excellent color.
