    Description

Griffithsville, WV- $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 654 The Oil Field NB Ch. # 10097
By present day standards this would be a somewhat unlikely title from West Virginia, but this note reminds us that the historical beginning of the American energy industry took place in western Pennsylvania and adjacent areas. In addition to possessing a most desirable title, large notes from this bank are scarce indeed, with the census standing at just six recorded examples. This piece, from the Burnside collection, is one of the very nicest, displaying two color signatures of Thos. J. Grass and A.W. Miller. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
