Charles Town, WV - $20 1882 Brown Back Fr. 499 The First NB of Jefferson Ch. # 1868 PCGS Fine 15.
This is an attractive $20 Brown Back from a very rare bank that operated in Jefferson County, the easternmost county in West Virginia. The First National was only in business from 1871 until 1903 and, to date, just four notes are reported. Tonight's offering is one of that quartet and is making its first ever public appearance. It is a bright, well margined note with great color and bold pen signatures. PCGS has noted a very small edge tear in the bottom margin which is of no consequence at all in comparison to the rarity of this appealing Second Charter note.
