    The publication of the new Kelly census of high denomination notes has confirmed the truth of the long standing belief that high denomination large size notes from the Old Dominion were scarce items indeed. Of the exactly 1500 recorded $50 1902 Date Backs and Plain Backs, just two were from Virginia, one from Staunton and one from Petersburg. This piece is the third known $50 example, and the second from Petersburg. It is an evenly circulated Very Good-Fine note, with a close top margin.
