    One of Two Known

Flint Hill, VA - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 633 The First NB Ch. # 11797
A great Virginia rarity which we sold to our consignor in 2010 as part of The Old Line Collection, where we noted "An excessively rare large note from this tiny Rappahannock County community. Only two large notes (along with three small examples) are listed from here in the Kelly census, and, as is typical with the scarcest of Virginia banks, all have been closely held for years. In fact our records of almost 350,000 appearances of Nationals on fixed price lists and in auctions indicate that not one note from here, large or small, has ever been available to collectors at public sale going back sixty years save for the large and small pair we sold as part of the Emmett Brooks collection in 2003. With only $450 outstanding in large notes from here, don't look for many more notes to turn up either. Your cataloguer sold this note to Emmett Brooks in 1983, handled it again in 2003, and now is privileged to offer it again as part of The Old Line collection. The apparent grade is for a minor amount of rust that seriously affects nothing. PCGS Apparent Fine 12." Six years later, the large size census still remains at just two, with no offerings of any kind from this one bank location since our consignor obtained this piece back in 2010.
