Newport, TN - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 627 The First NB Ch. # 9632
This Cocke County bank opened its doors in 1909 and issued mostly large size notes. Before being closed by the receiver in 1930, it issued a very small number of small size notes. With just a few months of issuing 1929 $5's and $10's there is little wonder why a single example has yet to be reported extant. Our records show just four large size examples and a sheet having been offered in more than twenty years. This piece is evenly circulated with a decent overprint and appears problem free. The grading service indicates, "Minor Rust," which is minor to the degree of being measured with widths of human hairs, or for the case of this description, non-existent. PMG Fine 12.
