Newly Reported Tazewell, VA Red Seal

Tazewell, VA - $5 1902 Red Seal Fr. 587 Tazewell NB Ch. # (S)6123 PMG Very Fine 30.
A wonderful new addition to the census from this scarce SW Virginia bank that is not only just the tenth large size reported but also only the second Red Seal. It is easily the finer of the pair and, most notably, the first of the two notes to ever be publicly offered. It is a nice note with excellent color, the clear pen signatures of two members of the Gillespie family, and light, even wear. It also features two interesting serial numbers - first, it bears low bank serial number 9 but it also carries a very low Treasury serial number of A409 indicating it was one of the very first $5 Red Seals printed for entire country.
