Description
Unique for the Bank
Santa Barbara, CA - $100 Original National Gold Bank Note Fr. 1164 The First National Gold Bank Ch. # 2104The parade of rarities continues with one of the greatest notes in the Eureka Collection, the unique $100 Santa Barbara National Gold Bank Note. This is one of the few National Gold Bank Notes that can trace its provenance back to the Grinnell holdings, where it sold in Barney Bluestone's March 1945 sale for the then fantastic sum of $225. It then passed to the Robert F. Schermerhorn Collection and later appeared in a 1990 Stack's sale, before last appearing in a 2001 sale, and was later purchased privately by our consignor. It is one of only nine hundreds known from all National Gold Banks combined, and the sole representative from Santa Barbara. PCGS mentions pinholes along with a missing upper left corner tip, but the colors are quite sharp for a note in this grade and the overall appearance is one of an even higher grade piece. PCGS Fine 12.
