Description

Unique for the Bank $50 National Gold Bank Note

San Jose, CA - $50 Original National Gold Bank Note Fr. 1161 The Farmers National Gold Bank Ch. # 2158
A fantastic note which is perhaps the crown jewel of the Eureka Collection. It is one of only seven $50 National Gold Bank Notes listed in the census, and the only example from outside of San Francisco, where the First National Gold Bank accounts for all six of the other survivors. Only one has been for sale in the past decade, with that example, which we first sold as part of the Tom Flynn Collection in 2008 and again as part of the Greensboro Collection five years later, realizing $340,750 in its 2013 appearance. That note is ensconced in a PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35 holder, while this note is in a comment free (and non-Apparent) PCGS Very Fine 20 enclosure. With one of the seven reported $50 National Gold Bank Note survivors in multiple pieces and another likely off the market forever in the ANA museum, this may well be the only opportunity for collectors to obtain any $50 National Gold Bank Note for decades to come. Expect our estimate to prove conservative before the hammer falls on this attractive and evenly circulated rarity tonight.
