Salem, NY - $2 Original Fr. 387a The National Bank of Salem Ch. # 1127 PMG Very Good 8.
A very rare Washington County bank which issued First Charters only before liquidating at the expiration of its charter in 1885. Of the five notes in the census, three are rather low grade or have some problems, another, a 1875 $5, is actually a nice Fine-Very Fine, while the fifth note is the current offering. It's the only Deuce reported from this tough charter. While it has seen its share of circulation, it remains solid for the grade with decent color and legible stamped signatures.
