$100 1882 St. Louis Date Back-Unique for the Bank, Town, & State

Saint Louis, MO - $100 1882 Date Back Fr. 571 The State NB Ch. # (M)5172 PCGS Very Fine 35.
One of the most significant items in this landmark Missouri offering, with this note the only $100 1882 Date Back recorded to date from any bank in the state of Missouri. The $100 Date Back is a rare type from just about every state, with a total of only 131 examples listed in the National Bank Note Census from all banks in all states. Not one has ever been reported from any of the four banks in Missouri that issued this type, which is hardly surprising as the total issue in the Show-Me state was a miniscule 3,000 pieces from all four issuers combined. With all of the collectors of Missouri Nationals, as well as all the collectors of St. Louis Nationals, never having had the opportunity to obtain even one $100 1882 Date Back from any Missouri institution, any estimate here is simply a speculation.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
