    Description

Near-Gem Serial Number 1 Prescott, AZ Small Size

    Prescott, AZ - $10 1929 Ty. 1 The First NB Ch. # 13262 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The First National Bank in Prescott was one of the shortest lived banks in Arizona. It was chartered in late 1928 and succumbed to The Great Depression by early 1933 when it was liquidated. Only small size notes were issued by the bank, with a total issue of only $65,220. This sum was paltry compared to the larger banks in Tucson and Phoenix. Today, the census records two circulated notes and two serial number one sheets, the $5 and $10 sheets. The $10 sheet was cut and the notes were quickly acquired and buried by collectors. In 2012, we offered the "C" note from the number 1 $10 sheet in a PMG 64 EPQ holder where it fetched $15,275. Tonight, we are able to offer the "D" note from the same sheet which is well margined and deeply embossed. It missed out on the EPQ designation for a tiny ink spot but did earn the comment "Good Embossing" from PMG.
