First Offering in More Than 30 Years

    Williamsport, PA - $5 1875 Fr. 401 The City NB Ch. # 2139
A truly rare bank which issued First Charters only before entering receivership in 1886. By 1916, a mere $855 was outstanding, with that figure including one of the two recorded notes, an Original Series $100 which was part of the Grinnell holdings and has not been seen since its 1945 auction appearance. Only one other note was known before the appearance of this Series 1875 $5, with that piece having last appeared in a 1986 fixed price list. Attractive PCGS Very Fine 30, a great Pennsylvania rarity.
