    Scarce Philadelphia $50 Brown Back

Philadelphia, PA - $50 1882 Brown Back Fr. 508 The Western National Bank Ch. # 656 PMG Very Fine 20.
This is a newly surfaced $50 Brown Back from a much tougher Philadelphia bank that closed its doors for the last time in March 1912. It not only represents a bank with just a dozen pieces reported but also a very scarce type and denomination with less than 350 examples extant for the entire country, according to the National Currency Foundation census. Fortunately, it is also a pleasing mid-grade example with good color and solid paper for the grade.
