    Description

Philadelphia, PA - $5 1902 Red Seal Fr. 587 The Bank of North America Ch. # (E)602
This is a very significant note for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that this institution alone was permitted, by special permission granted by Congress, to retain its original name when it applied for a national banking charter, circumventing the legal requirement that every bank chartered by the government contain the word "National" in its title. This example is as nice as any of the handful of Red Seals known from here in all denominations, and is one of just two $5 Red Seals extant from this institution. Bright Fine-Very Fine, with green pen signatures, a note certain to appeal to many collectors.
