    Scarce Serial Number 1 1875 $5

    Philadelphia, PA - $5 1875 Fr. 404 The Merchants NB Ch. # 2462
A quite lovely serial number 1 1875 $5 from this better Philadelphia bank that issued First and Second Charter notes only before liquidating in 1910. It is the only number 1 note known from this location and represents a very scarce type and denomination for number 1 notes for the entire country. Obviously set aside at the time of issue, it has the look of a Choice CU note in its holder, with fresh ink colors and signatures that appear to have been written this morning. A great note fit for the finest of collections. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ.
