    Description

Mauch Chunk, PA - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 479 The First National Bank Ch. # 437 PMG Very Fine 20.
Only the third National to emerge from the shadows from this Carbon County bank according to the National Bank Note Census, the example in this lot is much nicer than the other two survivors. It resides in a comment free third party holder and is an excellent representative for the grade, with dark penned signatures of Cashier Edgar Twining and President A(lexander) W. Leisenring. Charter number 437 liquidated in 1903 after being open for 39 years. Our research informs us that this is the very first auction appearance for this charter number since 1988. With that knowledge, our estimate will remain conservative, but it would not surprise us at all to see it swiftly surpassed.
