Kutztown, PA - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 606 The Kutztown NB Ch. # 5102
A fascinating item which opens a window on how some Nationals were preserved for posterity, as it comes with a typewritten debit slip from the Kutztown National Bank dated July 26, 1929 made out to Philip D. Hoch which reads as follows: "for 1 $5.00 National Bank Note, signed by O.P. Grimley and C.S. Siegfried for the Collection as requested...$5.00 Charged to your account." History has not recorded why Mr. Hoch requested this note, but July, 1929 marked the introduction of the new small size currency, and it seems likely that the request was made at just about the last moment that brand new large size examples could be obtained. The note itself is a pen signed beauty, with just a few handling marks picked up over the years. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
