    Enid, OK - $20 1929 Ty. 2 The First NB Ch. # 9586
Governor William H. Murray ordered all banks in the state to close in early March 1933. President of the First National Bank of Enid, Herbert Hiram Champlin, refused as the bank was financially sound. Therefore, Governor Murray called out the National Guard. Captain Stephen J. England and 18 guardsmen went to Enid and closed the bank down. This gave the First National Bank of Enid the distinction of being the only bank to be closed by the military in American history. The four day banking holiday ended on March 9, 1933. The president on this $20 is H.H. Champlin. Fine, with a small spot of discoloration at back upper right.
