Very Rare Indian Territory $5 Brown Back Two Reported

Durant, IT - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 477 The First National Bank Ch. # (W)5129 PMG Fine 12.
An extremely rare Indian Territory brown back. On this brown back face plate layout, "Indian Territory" is spelled out and not partially abbreviated. It was the only reported example when Mike acquired it at auction in 1992 from the Lyn Knight, June 1992 sale for $687.50. That is ancient history in the value of rare Nationals. Noted as "Repaired" by PMG. There is visible scotch tape on the face that shows through to the back. We have cataloged the only other note of this charter and type. That PMG Choice 15 Net piece realized $6,462.50 in our January 2013 FUN sale. Although not its grade equal, this piece aligns in great rarity.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
