    Description

Norwich, CT - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 467 The Thames NB Ch. # 657
The first of a pair of $5 Brown Backs from this bank, with this piece displaying the first and more ornate layout used on its initial issue of Brown Backs. This example also uses the first, or "stacked" Treasury signature layout. Pen signed Very Fine-Extremely Fine, with the signatures of E.A. Gibbs as Cashier and F. Nichols as President. As is often the case with notes from this bank, the top margin is trimmed slightly into the design.
