    Description

    Durham, NC - $5 1929 Ty. 2 The Citizens NB Ch. # 7698
This note is unique for type currently. Marion Eugene Newsom served as President of the bank and only signed Type 2 $5 notes. In 1929, Mr. Newsom was elected president of Rotary International as well as serving as mayor of Durham twice. He also sat on the Board of Trustees of Duke University, where he was an alumnus, when it was known as Trinity University. This pillar of the Durham community has been forever immortalized by the simple act of signing his name to a National Bank Note. Very Good+.
