    Unique for Bank and Town

Bridgeport, NE - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 627 The First NB Ch. # (W)9711 PMG Very Fine 20.
A great Nebraska rarity that is the only note reported from this flyspeck of a community in western Nebraska. The hamlet of Bridgeport had its start in 1899 by the building of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy through that part of the state. Eleven years later, when Bridgeport had a population of 500, the First National Bank was established. However, it was destined to be an early victim of the agricultural depression of the 1920s and was closed by the receiver in 1921. To date, just one note has ever surfaced from the sole issuer in this remote location and that is the specimen we are offering this evening. Off the market since its last auction appearance in 1998, it is a pleasing mid-grade example and, despite a few edge tears, it maintains an overall attractive appearance and will certainly be a highlight of the next collection it enters.
