    Bank Signature Overprint Error

Kansas City, MO - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 599 The First NB Ch. # 3456
A most unusual error note from this otherwise common Kansas City bank. As was the common practice of the day, this large bank sent its newly-arrived sheets from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to a local printer to have its officers' signatures applied rather than deal with the tedious chore of hand-signing its many thousands of notes. However, at the print shop, the sheet, from which this note originated, was fed into the machine upside down producing a pair of signatures at the top of the note in the inverted position. In our 2015 Long Beach auction, we sold a similar error on a San Francisco bank for $1175. PCGS Fine 15, and certainly a note that will be of great interest to both error and National enthusiasts.
