    Description

    Excessively Rare Canton Note

Canton, MO - $5 1902 Date Back Fr. 590 The First National Bank Ch. # (M)7729 PMG Very Fine 20.
A very rare bank which issued Third Charter notes only before liquidating in 1916. To date, just two notes are definitively reported, although Track & Price lists a third, but its serial number is rather suspicious and it has never been publicly offered. This piece is one of the two in census and was last handled by us in our inaugural auction of November 1990. It is a pleasing, evenly circulated example with decent color and dark pen signatures. The only note from this Lewis County issuer to cross the auction block since 1993, it presents a great opportunity for the Missouri specialist.
