McGehee, AR - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 612 The First NB Ch. # 13280
A very scarce late charter bank which issued large notes for less than six months before the 1929 conversion to small currency. This piece bears the last signature combination used on large Nationals, Jones-Woods, and as such is quite rare. Five examples are listed in the census, but only two have been on the market since a 1982 appearance in a Hickman-Oakes auction, one the low grade repaired and bank stamped specimen we sold in June of 2010, and the other a similarly graded VF 25 which fetched over $3,800 in a 2012 auction. PMG Very Fine 25.
