McGehee, AR - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 612 The First NB Ch. # 13280
A very scarce late charter bank which issued large notes for less than six months before the 1929 conversion to small currency. This piece bears the last signature combination used on large Nationals, Jones-Woods, and as such is quite rare. Four examples are listed in the census, but the only one to have been on the market since a 1982 appearance in a Hickman-Oakes auction was the low grade repaired and bank stamped specimen we sold in June of 2010. This piece is far superior, and the first really nice large example from this bank seen in three decades. PCGS Very Fine 25, with bold purple signatures and lots of eye appeal.
